New York Society of English and French Literature Three-Quarter Leather 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
A limited printing of 1000 registered and numbered sets of which this is #204. Circa 1899. Leather over marble boards, marble endpapers. Gilt titlework to spines. Tissue guarded photogravure frontispiece. Spine ends are worn, more so at the spinehead. Volume 1 - outer leather spine is separating from front board, inner hinge is solid and strong, 3 inches of leather missing at spinehead. Volume 4 - 2 inches of decorated leather at spinehead is quite loose. Volume 10 - Outer spine leather is missing, again, internal hinges are quite solid and strong. All volumes are rubbed to edges/corners, all with gilt topstain which is quite attractive. All volumes are quite solid with strong hinges, text is clear, crisp and these books are seemingly unread, quite tight to the spine. This is a SCARCE set to find. Vol. 1 - Adam Bede, Vol. 2 Romola, Vol. 3 - Mill on the Floss, Vol. 4 - Felix Holt Theophrastus, Vol. 5 - Poems Essays, Vol. 6 - Life and Letter vol.1, Vol. 7 - Life and Letter, vol. 2, Vol. 8 - Middlemarch vol. 1, Vol. 9 - Middlemarch vol. 2, Volume 10 - Daniel Deronda vol. 1, Vol. 11 - Daniel Deronda vol. 2. Not a perfect set but attractive for display and for reading. A nice set.
